I Love Singing But Have No Confidence | What to Do

Love singing but have no confidence and feel embarrassed?

Loving singing but lacking confidence is incredibly common. The fear usually comes from judgment, not ability. Confidence isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you build by doing. The right environment can make all the difference in helping you feel comfortable and enjoy singing again.

Why You Feel Embarrassed to Sing?

Here's something I'd love you to think about...

Who first made you believe you couldn't sing?

Take a minute.

Can you picture them?

For most people, there's a moment.

A teacher telling them to mime in the school choir.

Someone saying, "Maybe just sing a bit quieter."

A parent making an offhand comment.

A sibling laughing.

An audition that didn't go to plan.

The funny thing is, the person who said it has probably forgotten all about it.

You haven't.

You've carried that comment around for years.

Maybe even decades.

And because of one moment, you've decided...

"I'm not a singer."

Your body remembers too

This is the really interesting bit.

When we feel judged, our body reacts.

Our shoulders tense.

Our jaw tightens.

We stop breathing properly.

We hold back.

And all of those things make singing harder.

So you think...

"See! I knew I couldn't sing."

When actually...

Your body is simply protecting you.

Can a Bad Singer Become Good?

First...

I'd question whether you're actually a bad singer.

Did you know only around 1% of people are genuinely tone deaf?

That means almost everyone has the ability to hear pitch.

Think about how much music you've listened to in your life.

Every birthday party.

Every wedding.

Every concert.

Every song in the car.

Every film soundtrack.

Your brain has been collecting music for years.

It's like having your own musical jukebox.

Sometimes it just needs a chance to come out.

My little theory...

People often ask me what makes someone a good singer.

If I had to put a number on it after teaching hundreds of people, I'd say...

🧠 70% confidence and mindset

🎤 20% technique and practice

10% natural talent

No, that's not a scientific study.

It's just what I've seen over and over again.

The biggest breakthroughs almost never happen because someone learns a clever vocal exercise.

They happen because someone finally relaxes.

Confidence Isn’t Talent

Talent gets far too much credit.

Confidence is what changes everything.

I've watched people spend their first rehearsal barely opening their mouths because they're terrified someone will hear them.

A month later...

They're belting out harmonies.

Not because their voice suddenly changed overnight.

Because they stopped worrying about sounding perfect.

And that's where the magic happens.

Safe Spaces to Start

This is exactly why I started Feel Good Choir.

I wanted it to feel like the place I wish more people had experienced growing up.

Nobody is going to point at you and say,

"Your turn!"

Nobody is going to laugh because you sang the wrong note.

And if someone comes in at completely the wrong time...

We usually laugh together.

Not at them.

With them.

Because honestly...

It happens to all of us.

Including me!

That's what makes it fun.

The aim isn't perfection.

It's enjoying yourself.

The confidence comes afterwards.

What are you waiting for? Come and see what it´s all about!

More than just singing

One of my favourite things about Feel Good Choir isn't actually the singing.

It's watching people arrive not knowing anyone...

...and a few months later they're going for dinner together, coming to karaoke nights and arranging to meet outside choir.

We've now got members from more than 36 different nationalities.

Everything is in English, so if you're looking for an international community in Madrid, you'll fit right in.

How to Get Started

Honestly...

The hardest part is walking through the door the first time.
